I don't know what ionizers do exactly since I'm not very science minded. I don't know if you remember those Sharper image ads where the founder says he put a contraption - I think it was an ionizer - in his musty vehicle and it smelt fresh afterwards. Anyway, for a while, our garage was very humid, and I am very sensitive to mold, so we occasionally would use an ozone air activator that is supposed to control mold, similar to that described in:

(I'm not selling the stuff, by the way ). It's not exactly an ionizer, but the idea seems to be similar. Something about producing a loose oxygen atom that binds with pollutants, including mold and bacteria. It seems to help control mold, but I'm not sure it would cure a serious problem of mold on canvas (hence my question). Maybe as a preventive measure, if humidity and mold are a recurring problem in the room.
