: Mold on a canvas means that the painting was stored at 60% or more humidity for a long period of time. First you must dry it out thoroughly, then carefully brush off the mold. Compressed air would be a help in getting rid of any loose spores. The dry and clean picture must be then fumigated by placing it in a plastic bag with paradichlorobenzene (moth flakes ) or thymol.:
