Lefranc&Bourgeois have two different artist grade "Siccatif de Courtrai". The first is called "Siccatif de Courtrai brun (brown)". It is made with lead oxyde and manganese. It is very strong and must be used very sparingly. L&B claims that there's no problem with this product if it is used like it is supposed to be. The bad reputation of it is said to be due to excessive use only. The second is called "Siccatif de Courtrai blanc (white)". This one is weaker and contains lead oxyde only. L&B claims that it is perfect for lighter and slow drying colors. The recommended ratio is 1 to 1.5% with the colors (2 or 3 drops in a color nut). It is not recommended to be used in a medium. This stuff is supposed to make a "deep" oxydation. So i bet it can be of use for those who paint very thickly. It would avoid a "suface only" or skin drying.

Pebeo (another french manufacturer) also make this stuff. I have used it some times and never noticed any problems.

Hope this help.
