: I'm looking for advice on achieving textureless opaque flat surfaces with oil or acrylic. Large area coverage is an issue for the acrylic. Any tips would be apreciated.

Richard,
Have you tried spraying the paint on. I recommend it for FLAT if you really want flat, uneventful paint surface. In acrylics, if you must use a regular brush, it's simply a pain, but work with a plan, dont dilute the paint too much(if at all ) work swiftly and keeping a wet edge helps. In oils,i have used Stand Oil in the paint to eliminate the brush strokes,(a little goes a long way and it wont dry overnight). In oils also you could go over a painted area with a soft badger hair brush to soften any harsh stroke evidence.
I'd have to say that spraying comes to mind first, and with that the words"PREPARATION IS 95% OF THE JOB" which seem to ring especially true with airbrush work or spraying in general(and the other side of that coin reads:"CLEAN YOUR FRIGGING SPRAY TOOLS WELL AND YOUR NEXT SPRAY SESSION WILL GO SMOOTHLY".
