Robert Doak sent me some powdered leaded glass that can be mixed with paint or oil to create a similar effect.
A little copal mixed into lead white will thin it. Mix in a bit more and it makes it stringy.
Take your choice. Both methods produce the "mysterious" Rembrandt impasto.
