I certainly cannot fault you for making test panels. Would that more people do the same.
The only reason that I went back to school to take a few chemistry courses was that my questions could not be answered with purely empirical means. I needed to understand how the stuff worked on a molecular level in order to be able to 1) reproduce successes and 2) advance the qualities of various mediums and nostrums based on likely results. That only comes with a knowledge of how the stuff works at an unobservable level and how to make tests that will aid in predicting how they will survive in years to come.
