: Are you suggesting that all information is equal in value? Are you suggesting
that technicians have the slightest inkling of what ticks in an artist's head
and their motivations?
Again, the original post involved a technical question. No contributor to this
thread has claimed that technicians have anything to offer beyond a specific,
narrow expertise, or that technicians should be consulted regarding emotional
or motivational issues, or even regarding methodology. In that regard, it's
silly to suggest that a conservator's understanding of the structural integrity
of artwork is irrevalent.
A collegue of mine suggested to me that you wanted to cloud the issue because
your company, Studioproducts, sells Rabbit Skin glue but not PVA. If so that
is unfortunate because your products appear to be of good quality, and are capable
of standing on their own without diversionary tactics.
I have no vested interest in trying to pursuade you, or anyone else, to accept
the viewpoint of a third party. Ross Merrill's comments were posted because
they offered a qualified viewpoint on Jack's original question. Anyone on this
forum that takes issue with his statements can email me and I will provide contact
information so that you can debate the issue with him personally. As you indicated,
information gathered from various sources is never equivalent, and I think the
readers of this forum are intelligent enough to weigh the value of what they
read, and decide for themselves whether or not it has merit.
