Certainly it would seem on superficial analysis that a dubious medium would have a less deleterious effect if used as a lubricant than if used as an additive to the paint on the palette, but my question is -- why would anyone wish to employ such a risky medium under any circumstance when better ones are available? The medium does migrate up into the wet paint layer and deposit itself OVER the paint layer as you can see if you paint in this way. The pigment particles fall into the paint as the medium rises above it .
