: I am doing a school project using oil paints and i have done the first few layers but now need to do others without them smuging together. Is there anyway that I can speed up the drying process of the part already painted, or is there anything I can add to the paint prior to painting to help? And on average how long does oil paint take to dry?
Rather than add metallic dryers such as Japan or Cobalt dryers to the paint,
which is alway a bad practice in terms of the inevitable darkening and embrittlement
of the painting, you might try two safer expedients to hasten the drying ot
the oil paint: add a quick drying alkyd medium to the paint such as Liquin and
place the painting in direct sunlight or near a heat source for several hours.
