: I think you have put your finger on a major source of disagreement in these
oil painting forums: on the one hand you have those who are concerned with durability,
and on the other you have
: those who are concerned with the handling qualities of certain media and materials.
I think both of these qualities are important, however it is true that my original
question concerned resiliance and durability. This consideration has little
to do with the absolute value (critical or historical), but with what I feel
is an obligation to clients that purchase my work. Once I determine, from comments
of people on this forum and other sources, what seems to be the best technical
approach, then I'll have to take into account other more personal aspects, and
weigh them in the balance. The comments from you guys have all been helpful.
