: Look up BEVA the best if you are looking at archival. Rabbit skin glue is
still considered excellent as a size :-)
______________________________
If you're referring to BEVA 371, the smell will drive you out of the room and probably cause your kidneys and liver to fall out unless you use a respirator. The formula for BEVA 371 is a combination of cyclohexanone resin such as Ketone-N, Larapol K-80 along with ethylene vinyl acetate resins such as Elvax. The CPC data sheets list toluene, naptha and heptane as ingredients in BEVA 371. Seeing as they are living in deadly fear of lead paint, this is not the sort of stuff the average artist wants to play with.
If, however, you are speaking of BEVA film, that doesn'r smell. However, it comes in a sheet and must be applied with heat. It's strictly for conservation purposes and has no use in the production of art.
For the average artist, using BEVA products is as exotic as using the epoxy that holds the wings on fighter planes. Yes, it can be done and it's a great way to stay away from the scary act of painting, but how much exotoca do we really need?
