: Does anyone know of a method for de-fatting linseed oil and removing the mucilage?
Some people believe that mixing it with sand and water will clean the oil, but it really does very little. Defatting and removing mucilage (called--casting foots) is a complex process that involves slow heating and aging of the oil. That's something you cannot easily do at home.
Your best bet is to buy alkali-refined or "special aged" oil.
