It's more a question of balance. A little bit of a resin (especially a balsam)will
make the oil very adhesive, but as we continue to up the percentage of resin
to oil, the adhesiveness goes down. The retouch varnish is an isolated isolating
varnish which has formed no molecular bond with the oil because it is dry when
the oil is applied. This is different than if the same varnish was added to
the oil.
