: Do you have to wait 6 months before varnishing oils, or can you lighly spray them, before hand?

Unfortunaly, if you varnish before the oil has had time to dry completely, which takes at least 6 months, you run the risk of the paint cracking later on. I got around this problem, as I like luminous paintings, by adding Winsor-Newton Artist Painting Medium to my paint. Now my paintings have a beautiful sheen to them right from the start! It does thin the paint, so be careful of adding too much!
