: SHOULD I SEAL OR OIL THE NEW HARD-WOOD PALLET THAT CAME WITH MY EASEL: JULLIAN
1/2 BOX? I PLAN TO USE IT FOR OIL PAINTING. THANKS

michael,
i would go ahead with oiling the pallete with linseed oil and wiping it down ten or fifteen minutes later. Just don't leave any thick layer on top the wood surface- simply wipe it down good. Depending on how you work it and clean it (or not) it may eventually warp anyway, but not before it gives you years of service and, hey, it's just two pieces of plywood with hinges and a latch, you can always measure and have a brand new pallette very inexpensively. Also you can always measure NOW and try another material such as plexiglass or what have you so that your back-up pallette is ready the minute the old one goes.
***Even more importantly you need to OIL THAT EASEL!!! Take that nugget apart
even (if you have a chunk of time) and use mineral oil or similar(mineral oil
can be got everywhere, even in the middle of the night at the 24 hour market
where you will find it in the aisle with the laxatives.) Do the same...brush
the oil on, rub it in, wait ten or fifteen minutes, wipe off. EASY AND WORTH
IT!!! I have a Grumbacher full size easel box that i got in 1985 when i was
fifteen and i've been waitin' for that thing to go but it just won't die! When
it does go i'm getting the Julian half-that's a portable little tool. Look after
that girl and she'll look after you. Paint it up!
You'll love using that thing when the water's just beading right off of it.
