: How good is the medium known as "Copal"? and is it to be used with othe mediums such as linseed/stand oil and damar varnish? or just with turpentine? If it is to be mixed what are the proper ratios?

Copal is a hard resin, as is amber, used widely in mediums. Many suppliers have a copal-type medium. Recipes vary. Other soft resins are widely used as well: dammar, and mastic.

I personally find copal too "slippery," although many artists use it routinely. I has a long tradition of use; it's not a recent innovation, if that's your concern.
