: I am just starting oil painting and I am quickly discovering it is an incredible
medium, I have a silly very amateur question to ask but after you apply a base
coat is it best to wait a bit before you dive into the main painting or not?
And what is possibly the best thinning solvent? I would appreciate any ones
comments or tips as well!
: Thanks!
: Abbie.
Well so far I haven't heard anything about waiting, probably because oils take
long to dry, at least without a dryer, it shouldn't matter. The standard thinner,
is 1/3 turpentine, 1/3 linseed oil. 1/3 damar's varnish. Easy on the oil if
you don't need the glossy look. Justine
