I'm not knocking Rob's talent in any way, I took him up wrong.
I understand the basic's behind chemistry, but I'm interested in knowing how the old masters knew their painting's would survive so long, the ethos bit is who came up with the theory, did they pluck it out off thin air. Copernicus got some some flack with his theories.
Experience can be an answer, what person thought of using oil as a carrier, who originated the idea if gesso and rabbit skin glue did they know something about the chemistry.
Most important of all what was the person doing when he discovered he could drink cow's milk.
A lesson has been learnt
