Bad Moods

: Thanks. I'll take a look at those. (Um, and why does everyone seem to be in a bad mood around here?)

There's a very good reason for casting a pall on the procedings, Emily. As you doubtless know, aside from honest and serious artists, the field of art attracts every sort of crackpot and marginal thinker who can not afford psychotherapy. Combine that with the internet's facility of allowing people to show up in disguise and you have a recipe for mayhem.

One such piece of marginalia has been the anonymous "Stump," a malcontent with no visible connection to art but who wanders about like the disembodied ghost of a mean-spirited third grad teacher, scolding all and subdry from the impregnable position of hiding in the virtaul bushes. He snipes and runs. That's his sole contribution to art and he, and a few others, infest the internet with their negativity and provocative comments. They add nothing simply because they have no actual knowledge of art to add. Like the rude rustics at a county fair, they may not know nuthin' 'bout art but they know what they DON'T like. The egalitarian internet affords those crackpots a forum for their scrampled and chaotic outlook whilst allowing them to run and hide behind fake identities. In days past, they would have crafted anonymous notes out of words torn from newspapers and pasted onto a sheet of loose leaf paper.

On the other hand, there are those on this and on my forum who actually know whereof they speak. Not so curiously, every one of those people publish their views under their own name (yes, Emily, I really am Rob Howard and don't operate under pseudonyms).

Sadly, Alexei hasn't the time to monitor this forum and offer as much extempore advice as we'd like to see (he has a great deal of information to offer in the form of prepared demonstrations). That leaves a vacuum allowing the "Stump's" of the world to slither in and, like malevolent class clowns, create chaos and draw some much-desired attention (however negative) to fill a neurotic need that burns in their belly.

At Cennini Forum we run a much tighter ship and whenever a "Stump" appears, he's is locked out in much the same way one would isolate the baccilus of the common scold. Tracking their IP addresses and locking them out at the root insures that those class clowns cannot impede the positive workings of a forum.
