: Is there a reason that I can't cover an oil painting with Gesso, soas to repaint over with another medium?

It's not the best idea to cover an oil painting with gesso and repaint it in another medium, unless used for a study. If you are to do that though, sand paper the oil painting down so that there is no impasto. Have fun!
