: : My favourite Painter was Dali, I've gone through periods of Abstract painting, emotional creations and painting for mental therapy. I've just recently got back into painting after 18 years of not touching a brush. My first attempt was a portrait from a photograph of my niece while on vacation in San Miguel de Allende Mexico. I think it turned out great and all the people concerned recognized her immediately. The painter I have been admiring recently are Ken Danby, Carl Brenders, Alex colville, Robert Bateman. I think art is art in the mind of the beholder and based on where your head is at the moment. After a certain point you throw the picture away and make adjustments to capture that artistic quality of the subject. At least this is how I feel at the moment. I enjoy abstact if it appears there was some artistic skill involved in creating it. Patman
: 18 years of not picking up a brush! Was it the vacation or your niece that got you started again? But anyway, congratulations on your painting! I've never taken an art class knowingly for mental therapy but I think everyone who wants to expand their visual awareness and discipline should take courses in drawing, painting, color mixing and theory, two and three dimensional design, etc. Breathing exercises help too.
