Re: Makin yur own stand oil recitation
The topic was stand oil and sun thickening as relating to antique terms. If you comrehend your own response as posted you agree with my staement or cannot conceive that modern higher temperatures creat a much faster reaction, unlike those available to the Dutchmen. Your statement of cooking Oil in a vacuum at 500+ degrees is essentially the modern equivalent extra heat to speed reaction and decrease reaction viscosity AND in a vacuum to enhance a boiling effect with adding any more heat to preserve the color without oxidation yet towards the same goal of polymerization. I don't want to incur the same wrath as Ed when a simple question was asked, but you need to be able to understand a chemical process and acknowledge how we currently substitute modern process to achieve the same effects. The high heat is the delta s in this process for speed and the vacuum is a contributing factor of speed as well as polymerization. Not being exposed to oxygen will indeed extend its shelf life. The concepts are the same with the mpodern miracle ofimproved preservation. What is at question here is that the end product is conceptually the same and processes similar IF you consider technical limitations..study some chemistry!
