Commercial matte varnish will do it, but you'll want to remove the retouch varnish first. Unfortunately, it is much too early to either remove the varnish or apply a final varnish without risking the paint.
It sounds like you put the retouch varnish on too heavily. The sitter will
have to live with until it dries enough to be properly varnished...three months
should do it.
