Re: Verdigris
Avoid Verdigris. It is the least stable copper green probably. It will eat right through paper and has caused some old maps to decay horribly.
The most permanent copper green (also with the best and brightest color) is Emerald Green (Paris Green, Schweinfurt Green). However, this color, like the other copper greens, is incompatible with many colors such as the sulfur-containing colors. It should be isolated with varnish like other copper greens. If it's mixed with incompatible colors, it will probably turn black.
Another problem with this color is that it's the most toxic of all pigments because it contains both soluble copper and soluble arsenic.
You can find this green in Van Gogh's paintings, Cezanne's, and many other artists mostly in the 19th century. It stopped being sold in the 60's. I have found one source on the Net of the synthetic, and one source of the natural. However, grinding this color is very dangerous.
