Re: round stretcher
: : Would anyone know how to construct an arched or round stretcher?
: : I've been commissioned to do a full-length, life-size portrait. The client
saw a large antique arched frame in my studio, and fell in love with it.
: : I've contacted cabinet-makers, but no one wants to tackle it so far.

: : Thanks

: Loretta,
: If it is life size and it has to be on canvas maybe you could just cut your
life size shape out of plywood and mount(via rabbitskin or hide glue-i think
rabbitskin-could be wrong) your canvas on top of that.
: You can just let the client worry about weight and adding another stud. :-)
: I'm sure that it wouldn't be too much trouble to custom make an arched stretcher--making
the shape first, then cutting the slots or using mortise & tenons--but it seems
simpler yet to just mount the canvas on plywood or other rigid material.
