: Hello

: I am going to give oil painting a try. I am taking a course offered "Joy of Painting using the Bob Ross technique". I want to play a little with my paints before the course and found that the store I purchased most of my supplies from does not carry this so called liquid white. It goes on the canvas first for wet on wet painting. Does anyone out there know how to make this or do I have to purchase it? Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I have been given the following recipe which I am sure will be of more assistance than any that has been offered so far! I wonder why the reluctance to tell you? Perhaps no one else knows:)

Here goes:-
Firstly... you create 'Liquid Clear'. This is made as follows...
Use _Stand_ Linseed Oil (polyermised lin. oil) with 10%-20% Sansodor. Mix thoroughly.

Secondly...Liquid White is obtained by using Titanium White with 10%-20% _Stand_ Oil/Sansodor mix.

Black Gesso is created from 'Liquid Clear' mixed with Acrylic Mars Black.

As a total novice I too was keen to get info from those who weren't novices. Funny how a novice was _willing_ to pass on the info, what!-)

Hoping that the hairs don't fall out of the brush like mine do. Cheapo ones:-))
Best wishes,
Gerry S.
