Venice turp. isn't a replacement for turpentine like Oil of Spike can be. It's
an additive to a medium, sometimes used in conjunction with a tempera/oil technique.
It's very thick and dries to a high glossy enamel shine. It can be replaced
with Canada balsam, which is a much nicer substance. As far as plain old turpentine
goes, there's not much difference between the higher priced and lower priced
ones, as long as it doesn't leave a residue if tested and allowed to dry on
a sheet of paper, it's good.
