: Thanks for the help, I'm having a go at making the emulsion. A bit of an amateur question, can oil paint be used instead of pigment, or does it defeat the purpose.

Am I right in thinking that the spongy layer effect left when water soluble paint is used goes through the complete paint film, and the layer found on Rembrants glaze is local to the glaze rather than the rest of the layers? I have no formal art education so try not to get too annoyed if my question is mundane.
