: Hi, I think i would help you to know .
: He painted over wood, covered with glue- gipsum gesso. The drawing was made with brown water based kolor. then he used brown egg tempera for his shadows, ochra for the middle tones and white egg tempera for modelating the highlits. Then he covered this underpainting with mastix varnish and then glazed .The medium of his glazes was balsam made from white pine and half part of sun thickened nut-oil . The main higlihts he painted over it with white egg tempera wet in wet. Then he glazed again. that,s all!
: have a good succes, dear friend i,ll be glad to know what do you know about old masters techniques and specialy of their mediums .
: Yours sincerely : Ivo
: bye

Thanks for your reply. It seems then that the ideal is to do a good detailed drawing over a white background in brown tones including midtones and highlights. But, wouldn't you have to have a middletone imprimatura to do highlights? I may try a brown underpainting-fix with mastic then glaze. I will do the underpainting with oil of spike and the rest with maroger's medium. This is for a white flower. what do you think?
