I would like to paint over a painting. Can I use my gesso over a damarred surface. I paint in oils using a heavy mixture of 1 part Damar, 1 part stand oil, 1 part turpentine. My ground is a mixture of Marble Dust and Rabbit Skin Glue over heat pressed masonite. To get a tooth on masonite I use 80 grit sand paper. Is it acceptable to sand the surface once it is dry and regesso a ground over it. Will it hold up?
