on 12/19/02 at 2:26 PM In Reply to: Ingres techniques posted by Abdi Ridha Malik on 11/09/01 at 10:20 AM: Ingres would first start of with a detailed sketch, done usually with the sight-size technique. He transferred this image to the canvas using charcoal. The painting itself began with a mid tone greyish ground. He would block in the planes of color, or dead coloring, with the exact correct tones. After this he would do the first painting by doing patches of the correct tones more specifically, keeping in mind the whites were always the thickist parts. The second painting he used the most oil and rendered detail. This is a really quick sum up of his technique. |
