It seems then that the ideal is to do a good detailed drawing over a white background in brown tones including midtones and highlights. But, wouldn't you have to have a middletone imprimatura to do highlights? I may try a brown underpainting-fix with mastic then glaze. I will do the underpainting with oil of spike and the rest with maroger's medium. This is for a white flower. what do you think?
