: Anyone know the correct way to glue an oil painting on canvas to a board? I recently had a request for a painting in a size that was not available in stretcher bars (10 1/2 x 13 1/2)

I have developed a rather elaborate method that I like ( I do not know how "correct" it is): 1.) Prime plywood or masonite panel with polyurethane of shellac to protect against moisture, 2.) sand both side with coarse sandpaper, 3.) apply to both sides a bonding paint like that sold to allow painting over tile, 4.) apply liberally a layer of acrylic gesso to one side making sure it is thick and even, 5.) immediately while the gesso is wet, position the canvas on the wet gesso and roll it out fromt he center squeezing air bubbles and excess gesso to the sides and corners, 6.) turn the canvas over and glue down the margins with the gesso, allow at least and inch of margin for gluing. I will take some practice to perfect your technique of doing this , but with much trial and error you will get the hang of it.
