I had somehow wandered into a Thomas Kinkade's shop in the mall one day and had an opportunity to look closely at his paintings. The light in his painting looked like a raised dot of flat light yellow paint, which, I think was some kind of textured paint, surrounded by dark and muted tones of colors. I think that might be the secret. I'm not sure if I know what I'm talking about, but it seems to make sence that if you put something bright against something dark, the bright would seem to glow much more than if you put it up against something not so dark. And, the fact that the textured paint which raised up a bit might help to make it look like it's glowing. I think. :)
