Hey guys,
Can anyone give me some detailed instructions on glazing ie. with a monocromatic underpainting. I'm after a classical portrait/nude look. Thanks.
Denzo
Denzo,
Here is the "Venetian Method" contained in Eastlake's book that I have used with much success.
1. Ink in drawing on white gesso
2. Imprimatura of gray made with black, white, and Indian Red
3. Full bodied monochromatic grisaille underpaint using same three colors
4. Glaze on local colors with warmer colors added to palette
5. Scumble with grays composed of black, white, and earth colors
6. Glaze again and finish
