Alright with the other person's gesso plan...keep the gesso at 3-5 coats, sand between later ones, be sure to gesso the other side as well as the plywood will warp as it adjusts to humidity over time, this, in turn, will lead to delamination of the paint layer. Smaller plywood panels will not exhibit such a tendency but larger ones such as yours are susceptible.
