Have to agree with Painter, soooo much quicker, better than mucking around in PSHOP, but, it depends on how much time you have to achieve your desired result, and how many times this need will arise.
I would also add the watercolour/wet canvas procedure in Painter is worth buying alone.
The real difference between the Progs. is evidenced by the names, one is excellent at manipulating photo/ graphic based imagery, the other creates it from scratch. (MUST use tablet!!!)
