Thanks for the reply. I'm familiar with your standard portrait palette (from your web site), but I'm still a little unclear how the greenish underpainting works it's magic. Is the flesh color (from your portrait palette, for instance) applied thinly, or translucently over the dry underpainting to modify the color slightly or to get the depth you mentioned? Sorry for being so dense. I've always been an alla prima painter, and don't get involved much in layering, but I've seen figurative work utilizing this "verdaccio" technique and I've become interested in learning how it was done.
