If you prefer to paint on a less-absorbent surface, perhaps you should paint on an oil-primed surface rather than one that is primed with acrylic gesso?
There are plenty of different ways to prime canvas. I am no expert regarding this topic. Robert Doak would know much more. www.geocities.com/doakart
