: is there an easier way to oil paint than the one shown on this web site...i'm pretty good at watercolors and sketching..does oil painting have to be this complicated???

Oil painting can be done easiest "ala prima". Get some paints, some linseed oil and solvents. Mix 50% linseed oil to 50% solvents. Use that as your "medium". Take the paint straight from the tube, put it on your palette and add the medium until it is a little smoother. Then PAINT, PAINT, PAINT! Don't worry about glazing, layering, or anything. It is easy to muddle your colors this way, though. If you need to, stop to let it dry and then continue later. Just be sure you use the same medium throughout the creation of the piece (otherwise you get into the more complicated styles of oil painting needed to keep your painting from cracking, etc.). Good LUck!
