I just discovered this post, and at the risk of saying what may have been written already, I have fould that, along with the great advice already given, I personally keep the palette very simple, with a warm red, a cool red, a warm blue and a cool blue, and a (yep...) warm and a cool yellow; this seems to facilitate the possibility of getting any primary or secondary colour to full saturation, or to warm it up a little, as you so desire. These colours form my basic palette, and from that point, later on, I might add something like a cobalt violet or something else I enjoy, but by that point, the palette is already pretty much done. I also, as above, spend a lot of time mixing on the painting itself, especially by laying colours on top of each other, glazes, scumbles etc. Hope this helps. shawn
