Re-Portrait painting technique--Simplicity

Dear Students: The easiest method of painting a portrait is the "three tone" method. Get your "middle flesh tone" mixed first(darkish-greenish), then get your "half-tones(light shadows)" which will be even more GREENISH. Then your deep shadows(Warm browns)and in places (cool browns-greenish) Then you get your Highlights on forhead, nose, around corners of eyes and mouth. SIMPLEMINDED takes BRAINS. So don't get complicated in the beginning. Make things look almost like "paint by numbers" because they will get complicated enough in finishing up details. O.K.? LESS is MORE---right? You learn to paint, by PAINTING. You learn to draw by DRAWING. DEGREES are for "teachers". Fred McCall(portrait painter)
