I have a problem with the "building" of the palette. I work of fantasy and the subject is never in front of me. I like it like that. The problem is that I never know in advance how many shadows and variation of colors I have to mix. Even if my palette is big, it ends up very clattered and very soon. I f I use a lot of paint to mix a lot of variations might cost me a fortune. Also I never understood those painters that work on a small palette that is very messy, I don't know how they can mix the colors in that fashion. Also I don't understand those painters that can mix anything they want just with the paintbrush. I don't seem to succeed in this way. I'll give you an example: Lately I'm trying to paint a forest. I don't actually know how many greens and which kind of greens I need, because everything still has to happen. So when I'm over mixing greens my palette is already full. Can anybody give a good suggestion for this problem?
