Re: Dying to paint in oil ! HELP !

: I have never attended an art class in my life, so I am self-taught, been doing well selling commissioned work, but I have only worked with acrylics. I do pets, celebrities, and family portraits. I'm learning that if I try oil I will see a big difference. I am scared to death because oil is a whole new animal. I did try a beach scene today with oil for myself and I thought it came out pretty good(had to get use to cleaning my brush constantly and the blending is a little tricky)My question is-- Doing a portrait of a person, how do I blend skin tones to get them right without gettin muddy? Do I clean the brush before I apply each shade? And how do you prevent unwanted blending e.g. doing eyelashes above the skin area, (getting the lash color mixed with skin color underneath?) Please some Advice from any of you Pros out there. Would really appreciate it. ThankyouFor portrait painting with oil many method can be follow, you should apply layer after layer, and it depend of the skin color dont use large quantity of color over the canva and try to use for each color deferent brush.first layer you can add mixed of cerleane bue with lemon yellow or yellow ochre, or preesian blue with lemon yellow or yellow ochre, and play with the colors where demand more light vice versa with a very thin layer, second layer it depend of the skin color, you can use mixed of alizarin crimson with yellow ochre or lemon yellow, cadmium red with lemon yellow and nipple yellow, or for the lightist area nipple yellow with flesh tint and deep cadmium yellow (9) and tiny of titanium white and many many of color graduation you will get when you play with mixing those color.and about the eyelashes to paint the all area at one time is preferable and to blend the color together you can use clean dry brush over the edges will give you good result but dont forget to graduat the color for three dimensional and around the face besid the hair use mixin of the first step with the second step and add them with beat to be blended with the other neighbor color.
