: Hi,
: Hope someone can help.
: I Usually paint with acrylic but I love to paint with oil. I have two questions.
: 1) I am alergic to the mediums used with oil, except turpentine. What would happen if I use only turpentine as a medium. Would this cause the paint to peel?
: 2) I usually paint very "thin" since I use fine details. Would this cause the paint to peel? I am asking these questions because I have tried oil painting years ago and the paint peeled off the canvas.
You can paint with just turpentine as a medium, and nothing will happen. Lots of painters use just turpentine. If the paint peels, you probably have the wrong ground. If you buy canvases with the ground already on, be sure they are for oil paintings, although, admittedly, I have used acrylic grounds for oil paintings with no ill effects.
