I hope by now you have received a reply to your query. If you didn't and are still wondering, you should not put mineral spirits into a septic system. These materials are also used as a medium in the oils. For the water miscible oils, it is safe to put down into the sewer/septic system unless you had a heavy load of particles in them--the heavy load of particles might clog your drain just as coffee grounds would after enough got caught. However, if you wash your brushes like I do, you run enough water in the process to flush the drains well. By the way, a good cleaner for the brushes are the dental cleaning tablets like Polident and Efferedent. I put a little warm water in, one tablet, and soak for about an hour then clean like usual. Less staining and brighter brushes! These tablets are really good for cleaning a lot of things like stained coffee cups, etc.
Enjoy your painting experience.
