HI
In many books about oil painting techniques it is written that to
apply a glaze on a larger surface (eg a flat background), the glaze
can be applied by just rubbing it on using the palm of your hand.
In this way one could achieve an even result. When I try this however,
there always seem to be little hairs and dust particles in the paint
that is already on the board or canvas, that seem to attract more
glaze than the even surface. This way, the hairs and particles get
highlighted and the end result looks really messy. Is using the hand
palm really a good way to apply a glaze, or is this just a myth. And
how can these dust particles be avoided? Can they be sanded
away?
