It's amazing that, whilst we don't know what methods the old masters used we know how they washed their brushes. Uh huh!

Get the book titled Brushes by Jacques Turner. He has been in the brush making business for a long time and he recommends using soap and water. There are a few brush cleaning soaps on the market. The best I have used is Ugly Dog. Dick Blick sells it. It has restored a number of old brushes that I thought were hopeless.
