I am a self-taught oil portrait artist, and I need to find a good semi-gloss final varnish that will not yellow in time, and that is relatively easy to apply. I have never used a varnish in the past, but would like to use one for the protective aspects.
Also, I know that I need to wait 6mo- a year before applying the varnish, and that I can tell my clients to bring the painting back later for me to varnish. I have never had any of my paintings framed, and know nothing about that aspect. Is there a particular type of frame that will allow them to get the painting framed before I varnish? I guess what I am saying is that I will need to take the painting out of the frame to varnish it, and my client wants to frame it now, before the varnish is applied.

If you can give me a good varnish, and some framing tips, I would greatly appreciate it! THanks
